Rewind the conversation
Go back to one of the agent's replies. Your later messages and their replies leave the conversation, the agent forgets them, and your next message picks up from that reply. Files stay as they are.
Why you would use it
A prompt sent the agent the wrong way, and every turn since builds on it. You want to ask again, worded differently, as if the wrong turn never happened. Sending a correction keeps the wrong turn in the agent's context; a rewind takes it out.
How to use it
Find the reply you want to go back to. Each turn's last reply has a rewind icon in its header, before the speaker and copy icons.

Tap it. A popup asks first: Rewind conversation, with how many of your messages will go. Tap Close to leave things as they are, or Rewind (
#confirm-go).
The later turns fold into one row under the reply, and the first message you took back is in the composer. Change it and send it, or clear the box and write something new.

To read what you took back, tap the Rewound row. The removed messages show greyed out under it. You can copy them, but they have no pencil and no rewind icon. Tap the row again to fold them.

A message you send while the rewind is still going waits for it, then runs after the reply you went back to.
What you see
| Where | What |
|---|---|
| a reply's header | the rewind icon, titled Rewind to here, on the last reply of each turn that has a message after it |
| the popup | Rewind conversation and Go back to this reply. Your 2 later messages and their replies are removed, and the agent forgets them. Files stay as they are. (Your later message and its reply are removed for one) |
| the toast | Rewinding… with a spinner from the tap until the box answers |
| the transcript | a row reading Rewound · 2 messages removed · Show, then Hide once open |
| the composer | the first removed message, unless the box already held a draft; then the toast finish or clear the current draft first and the draft stays |
If the agent refuses, its words are the toast and nothing changes.
Limits and known gaps
- Files the agent changed after that reply stay changed. The agent no longer remembers changing them, so tell it if that matters.
- Works on claude and codex tabs. opencode and cursor tabs show no rewind icon.
- No rewind icon while the agent works: stop the turn first.
- No rewind while the box is offline: the toast says
offline: rewind once the box is back, and nothing changes. - If a message of yours ran between the tap and the box getting the rewind (the
connection dropped and your outbox sent first), the rewind is refused with
the conversation moved on since you tapped Rewind; look again and rewind once more, and nothing changes. - A second rewind, or a
/clear, while one is still going is refused with<agent> is already going back; try again in a moment. - No rewind icon on a turn a restart cut short or that you stopped before the agent answered: the agent left no marker for it. On a codex tab the reply before such a turn has none either, since codex goes back from the turn after.
- No rewind past a compaction, a
/clearor a handoff to the other agent. The agent no longer holds those turns as they were. - Replies from before this version have no rewind icon: the app did not keep the marker the agent needs for them.
- A rewind is one way. The removed messages stay readable under their row, but you cannot bring them back into the conversation.
- There is no "fork from here". To try another direction and keep this one, fork the whole session from the resume screen.
